How To Remodel Your Home On A Budget: Great Looks On The Cheap

Remodeling your home doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. Some of the most effective techniques for how to remodel your home on a budget can be done with just a little bit of elbow grease, some imagination, and pocket change.

Paint the Walls: Nothing changes the look of a room faster than repainting the walls. And if you don't want to do the entire room, how about creating an accent wall? Remember these color tips: warm reds, yellows, and oranges create a happy conversational mood - perfect for a family or dining room. The cool tones of blue and lavender are restful and calming and work well in bedrooms. Green promotes concentration - great for a home office.

Change the Accessories: Sometimes a whole new look can be achieved simply by changing out a few key accessories.  Putting slipcovers on the furniture or purchasing new throw pillows can create an entirely fresh atmosphere in a room.  Try a different bedspread in the bedroom or hang different curtains in the kitchen and you will already feel the difference.

Rearrange the Furniture: Is the room cramped and uncomfortable? Are you always running into the same piece of furniture? There is definitely a cheaper solution than demolishing the walls and adding more square footage. Look at your room and think about what you use it for and what's not working.  Grab a pencil, a notebook, and a tape measure and draft out some potential floor plans. Work out what you want to move and what will fit. Then grab a couple of strong armed folks and get that new look!

Check Your Lighting: How we light our homes can have a big effect on how we use our homes. Is the lighting in the room appropriate for the task at hand? If we avoid using certain rooms because we simply can't see in them, then sometimes the situation can be saved by simply adding some extra lamps.

Declutter Surfaces: Homes are often remodeled to add more space when really all we need to do is to get rid of what we aren't using. Countertops, bookshelves, china cabinets and side tables become useful and used again as space opens up for the things that you actually do use on a day-to-day basis.

Knowing how to remodel your home on a budget can save you money and aggravation, while delivering the results you were looking for all along!
