The Standard You Can Trust

Posted by Admin on 16 May 2012

Whether you’re looking to sell in the near future or not, it’s important to think about adding value to your home. In addition to getting you a better price when you do sell, doing a few things to make your house nicer can make it more pleasant for you to live in. There are myriad ways to gussy up your house, but three stand out as functional and effective ways to make your house more attractive: remodeling and modernizing your kitchen, replacing your siding, and replacing the roof.

A kitchen is one of the most important ways your house can set itself apart from competition. Most prospective homebuyers can look past small details in bedrooms or living rooms, but thinking of cooking dinner in a cramped kitchen last redone in 1975 is often too much to overlook. Size is significant in a kitchen- if you can make the space bigger, do so. Replace old, cheap cabinets with quality hardwood options, and update appliances. It’s not necessary to go top of the line, but it’s important that your fridge and oven look like they might last another few years and not like you should have replaced them a few years ago.
Looking for someone reliable to help remodel your kitchen?

In Atlanta, try Consumers’ Choice Award Winners Totally Dependable Contractor, Rose Hall Kitchen Galleria, Kitchen Fronts of Georgia, or Premier Surfaces.

In Columbus, give Improve It! Home Remodeling, Midwest Home Improvement, J.S. Brown & Company, Cabinetworks Kitchens, or Kitchen Kraft a shot.

In Dallas, look for Allied Stone or Statewide Remodeling.

Siding is one of the first things a prospective buyer sees on a house. If yours is in need of repair, it’s setting the tone for the rest of the house. If you’re trying to get the greatest return on your house, a tone of “this is a fixer-upper” is not the way to go. Options like composite siding or cement board siding are extremely durable and have the added benefit of lowering the amount of maintenance you’ll have to do. So, again, even if you aren’t looking to sell immediately, this is an option that also has incidental benefits.

In Atlanta, try Exovations of Metro Atlanta, Metro Home Improvement, or Pro Roofing and Siding.

In Columbus, look for Apco Architectural Products or Central Ohio Exteriors.

In Dallas, your best bets are Woodbridge Home Exteriors, Statewide Remodeling, or Amazing Siding Corporation of Dallas.

In the same way that dingy siding can immediately turn a potential buyer off, a roof that’s peeling, plain, or otherwise unattractive hints at structural problems and more work the buyer will have to do after purchase. Replacing old, boring shingles with architectural shingles or Spanish tile roofing (if appropriate) will make your roof a selling point instead of something for the real estate agent to gloss over. It doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg, and let’s face it: if you watch home sale shows on cable, you already know you’re going to have to pay for a new roof anyway after the inspection.

In Atlanta, check out Dr. Roof Atlanta, Superior Roofing Company of Georgia, Exovations, Metro Home Improvement, or Pro Roofing and Siding.

In Columbus, look for Able Roofing, Apco Architectural Products, or Central Ohio Exteriors.

In Dallas, try Total Residential Roofing.

These tips are straightforward ways to get some bang for your renovation buck, and the companies suggested above will do the work right the first time.

I always like changing my kitchen but this involves loads of effort sometimes and loads of changes even if you want to just change one bit. I like the idea of making a kitchen big, I think most wants that and I like it a lot to have a bar table in the middle.
